From Block Cutting to Final Finishing: A Glimpse into a Workday at a Stone Factory
At a stone factory, the workday begins early in the morning. Each department starts its operations independently and in parallel—no unit waits for another. Everything runs according to the production schedule and customer orders.
Crane Section and Block Unloading
At the start of the day, stone blocks delivered from MGT’s quarries are unloaded using heavy-duty cranes. Each block is:
- Weighed and assigned a serial number
- Registered in the warehouse system
- Transferred to the cutting section if ready
Cutting Section
In this section, blocks are selected and adjusted based on customer specifications. Then:
- They are moved via wagons to the saw machines
- Cut during a full work shift
- Operators monitor the cutting quality and machine health
Processing Section
Cut stones enter the reinforcement stage:
- The back of each stone is covered with mesh and epoxy
- Cracks are repaired and strength is increased
- Stones are placed in thermal ovens to dry
- In the second half of the day, dried stones are collected and prepared for the next steps
Polishing Section
Reinforced stones move to the polishing line:
- Pre-grinding smooths the surface
- Any remaining pores are filled with materials like mastic
- Stones are dried again in the oven
- Depending on the customer’s request, finishes such as glossy polish, leather (textured), or matte are applied
Warehouse and Showroom
Finished stones are transferred to the warehouse:
- Some are packaged and shipped to customers
- Others are displayed in the showroom and gallery
- If custom dimensions are needed, stones are cut with a bridge cutter and then packaged for delivery
Administrative and Support Departments
Alongside production, administrative units such as:
- Accounting
- Communications
- Sales and purchasing
- Marketing
Work throughout the day to support and coordinate operations.
